Welcome to the project:
BUILDING TEMPLATE FOR THE STRENGTHENING FINNISH - RUSSIAN BUSINESS COOPERATION ACROSS THE BORDER IN
LAPLAND AND NW RUSSIA
Short background:
The deepening interdependence between the economies of Russia and the European Union is directly reflected in the growing volumes of our bilateral commercial exchanges. Over the last five years, the EU's trade with Russia has been increasing at an average annual pace of over 24 %. In 2007, its total turnover exceeded € 230 billion. The EU is also Russia's first trading partner, with over 50 % of the value of Russia's total foreign trade.
Importance of the Barents Euro Arctic Region and its economy is increasing. Main reason for that, of course, is Shtokman Gas-and-Oil fields in the sea just about 550 km up North from Murmansk. 1st phase of the Shtokman Gas-and-Oil fields project was started last year and it is planned to have first delivery of the raw gas in 2013. It is estimated that about €75 billion will be invested overall in the Murmansk region in following years (estimated till 2020): "The vast energy reserves in the Barents Sea and numerous mining and industrial investments make European High North a new global business center" -Timo Rautajoki, Lapland Chamber of Commerce. so, it does not concern only direct Shtokman Gas-and-Oil fields development, but also infrastructure development, construction work and other work around Industry. To ensure quality of the work, diversity of ideas, deliver project components in time CBC in Business is required. This project aim is to build support structure so that SME's can implement effective cooperation model in the future representing all kinds of business fields.
Analysis of problems and needs was done over past few month in cooperation with Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions from Russia, and Finnish Lapland in Finland.
